One of the activities I look forward to most is the twice-a-week caravan tours when I get to view the latest properties coming on the market. This island has so many interesting properties. And each week I find one or two that truly inspire me.
This last week two of my favorites included an updated beach town modern with clean lines and open-concept and an upcountry charmer that can only be described as picture perfect. Listed in chronological order of when I toured them:
Located in Central Kihei north of Kalama Park on the coveted Halama St, this property has been updated with clean lines, an open concept and modern style. Pocket doors in every room save visual and physical space. The light grey tones, coupled with the large windows and sliders allow in ample natural light and highlight the properties sleek, modern style.
The beautiful kitchen has room to accommodate several gourmet chefs at the same time. The dark brown tones in the custom cabinetry against the grey-driftwood colored plank flooring add definition to the space. Complete with a modern Bosch gas stove, lots of counter space and a wall-mounted TV (to watch your favorite cooking show while you cook alongside), this kitchen is a foodies dream.
The property boasts 3 bedrooms, but has a flexible layout so that two of the bedrooms can be combined to be used as one grand bedroom/office suite. The two back bedrooms open up to a lanai and a large landscaped backyard space. A beautiful large tree anchors the yard and provides shade while still allowing that beautiful Maui sun we all love to filter through.
This 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bath home is 1,490 square feet, situated on a just over 9,165 square foot lot and is listed at $1,279,000.
Located in the Kula 200 subdivision on a picturesque 2 acre lot is a property that defines the term ‘charming’. The large porch welcomes you in and is the first indication that you are about to experience something special. As I walked through the entrance the first thing that caught my eye – the Australian cypress wood floors that grace the entire home. My eyes are immediately drawn to the first of many gorgeous features, the stunning wood staircase.
It’s not often you see a house like this on Maui. As I take my first steps in, a colleague says, “It’s picture perfect.” She’s right. I take a moment in the entry just taking it all in. The detail, the woodwork, it reminds me of the east coast colonial style home.
The first floor includes a den, formal dining room, living room, full bathroom and expansive kitchen with a large walk-in pantry, although ‘walk-in’ does not begin to adequately describe this pantry. The storage in this pantry is a chef’s dream! And for coffee lovers like myself, one side of the driveway is lined with a wall of coffee plants.
All 4 bedrooms are located on the second floor, each one more charming than the last. Two of the bedrooms are joined by a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. The master bedroom includes a seating area and a large ensuite bathroom equipped with a soaking tub, large shower, dual sinks and water closet.
The bathroom leads to what can only be described as a dream closet. And although incredibly generous in space on it’s own, I was most impressed with the creative use of every inch of space. Each of the dormer windows are separated by smaller closets within this closet, set in between each window creating individual dressing “spaces”. Each mini-closet is equipped with lighting. You could have one dedicated closet for luggage, one for Christmas decorations, one for . . . just about anything you can imagine.
